Message from Library Director Carolyn Rawles-HeiserMay / June 2005The new Alsea Community Center Library opened in March, a beautiful new facility built because of the fundraising of Alsea Community Effort. The City of Monroe is giving the Monroe Community Library a small expansion in the City Hall building, and looking toward a process to perhaps build a new library building in Monroe. Philomath is celebrating ten years in their new building, and the City Council there was recently apprised of the long term space needs for that growing collection. In Corvallis, the Friends of the Library have paid for a redesign of the Popular Library and for a few pieces of shelving to make the redesign work. The Popular Library (new books, CDs, videos, etc.) did not turn out as hoped when we rearranged the Library last year. Staff had received many complaints about the location of new books and how crowded the books on tape area was. We listened to your comments and have a plan to make that area easier for people to use. Look for an improvement in the next few months, courtesy of the Friends of the Library and their great fundraising efforts. |
