Test Proctoring PolicyCorvallis-Benton County Public LibraryPlease Note:Charges: Reference librarians will proctor exams (both open book and closed book) free of charge, however, if your instructor requires us to fax back the exam there is a charge of $1 per page. There is also a charge of $.10 per page if we need to print out the exam. When: Preferred times to proctor tests are evenings before 7:00 pm and Saturdays. Online Exams are limited to one hour following our general computer use guidelines of one hour per day per person. A Corvallis-Benton County Library card is required to access the computers. Procedures:Exams should be addressed to “Reference Proctor.” This written procedure will be mailed or faxed to institutions that inquire about it. Proctoring tests is a service provided as a courtesy to our community and scheduling exams is at the Library’s discretion. Note: For closed books exams, the librarian and the student are in a public area and the student is not watched constantly. The librarian will be responsible for reading and following the proctor instructions on the test, setting up an area for the student in sight of the reference desk, in view of a clock, and observing the student. If the test is closed book, all materials except those specified in the instructions will be kept at the reference desk. Upon completion of the exam, the librarian will sign their name and then add “reference proctor” after their name. We will FAX the test and answers to the institution at a rate of $1.00 per page if requested. The test materials must include a typed SASE for the return of the test and answers. The Library is not responsible for lost or delayed materials. The student will be responsible for following the test’s instructions and keeping his/her own time. If the test is turned in late, the proctor will write a note indicating how much extra time was used. Librarians will record the student’s name, institution’s name and the date the test was mailed or faxed in the Proctor Log. If the test is lost in the return process, the patron has the responsibility of repeating the test. The librarian will put the test and answers in the library mail box or fax them. Some institutions ask library staff to enter their Social Security number or a driver’s license number. Staff should never enter personal information on any proctoring materials. Alert the student that we cannot do this. If these guidelines do not meet your needs, other local proctoring sites are available including: Linn-Benton Community College, 541-917-4781 This business might be able to do proctoring, depending on the requirements of the school. Students should call them to see and inquire. Tutoring Club, 541-791-8886 Updated 02/07 |
