SELF PICKUP OF HOLDS
Listen to Deputy Director Teresa Landers discuss self-pickup of holds
How do I find my hold?
Holds are filed by the first 5 letters of your last name and the last 5 digits of your library card number.
Why is the library doing this?
We are striving for greater efficiency and speed of service. By picking up your own holds we hope to reduce wait time and allow you to check out more of your own materials. This also provides an additional layer of privacy.
How is it more private?
You can reserve materials, pick them up and check them out without ever interacting with a staff member. We feel the system we have designed assures patron privacy. However, if you feel it is not private enough, you have the option of creating a unique alternate identifier for you personally, up to 19 characters long. Your hold items will be filed by this code that you personally designed. Please see any library staff member to implement this change.
What keeps someone else from checking out my hold?
The computer system will not allow anyone other than the person who has the item on hold to check it out.
Why don’t you have more express check machines?
We will have three additional express check machines installed by September. This includes returning one to the youth area. These new machines will incorporate additional security for selected audio visual materials.
What if I don’t know how to use Express-Check?
Staff and/or volunteers will be available to help you learn.
What if I don’t want to use Express-Check?
There will always be staff available to check out your materials for you. One desk is in the lobby itself and the other is at the window with the big $ sign above it.
What if I have an Interlibrary Loan, Video Game or Young Adult CD to pick up?
These items will be kept behind the service window in the lobby near the arcade entrance to the library.
What if I have fines to pay or my card needs to be renewed?
There is a service window near the arcade entrance. Staff can help you with all your account needs.
Where do I get a library card?
Fill out an application form and take it to the desk in the lobby or the service window.
